    ANNOUNCING FOUR REGIONAL IN-PERSON EVENTS

Statewide arts advocacy organization, Californians for the Arts, co-produces with regional partners four (4) FREE in-person convenings aimed at addressing the critical state of the performing arts sector in California.

Don’t miss out on the chance to be pART of the solution for the critical state of California’s nonprofit performing arts sector. Californians for the Arts, in partnership with regional collaborators, is proud to present “Adapting in Crisis: Toward a Resilient Performing Arts Sector,"a series of four (4) in-person convenings. The events are intended for patrons of the arts, funders, arts administrators, public officials, and the performing arts sector to collaborate, innovate, and learn about the state of the performing arts in communities across California.

The Golden State’s arts and culture sectors are renowned worldwide, but the nonprofit performing arts sector is facing an existential crisis like never before. The confluence of impacts, including COVID-19 and audience behavior changes, rising costs of production and employment, racial reckoning due to a lack of diverse representation, as well as historic undercapitalization and the end of relief funds, have put performing arts organizations across the state in peril.

One of the integral highlights of this series is a presentation on the recent report by CVL Economics on the state of California nonprofit performing arts. The report shows, among other key indicators, that California’s Performing Arts sector lost at least a decade’s worth of job growth in 2021, with employment dropping to about the same level as in 2010.

Each event will include presentations by Julie Baker, CEO of Californians for the Arts/California Arts Advocates, and Martha Demson, California Nonprofit Paymaster program specialist.  We are starting to announce additional speakers for each event, please see details below.

“Artists are essential workers for a healthy society,” said Julie Baker, CEO of Californians for the Arts and California Arts Advocates. “The arts bring meaning, empathy, and social connections to a society that is becoming increasingly isolated, polarized, and automated. Now is the time to invest in the creative industries for the future of work and for the future of humanity.”
